The component of the tube furnace with the same name is the heating chamber. It consists of a circular furnace wall made of high temperature ceramic; either of a solid cylindrical element or of two semi-cylindrical elements that close and form a single void. Reluctant heating coils or strips are inserted into the ceramic to surround the central chamber with evenly spaced heating elements. Such an architecture ensures the best possible thermal uniformity when processing both inorganic and organic compounds.
Thermcraft offers two main types of tube furnaces:
split Tube Furnace: The split tube furnace is a staple for academic institutions and RandD applications, consisting of a hinged frame that opens in two for easy access to the inner chamber.
Full tube furnaces: a Full tube furnace does not open vertically or lengthwise. They use a process tube that runs through a fixed heating cylinder; a configuration ideal for applications where batches are developed for repeated sample sizes.
Tube furnaces are used for various thermal processes including: inorganic and organic purification; accelerated aging; annealing; Coating; dry; and much more. As a result, they have proven to be a fixture in several heat treatment markets.
The main reason for using tubular furnaces is the unparalleled heat uniformity of cylindrical heaters. Single-zone chamber components are exposed to a uniform heat value of more than 1000°C (1832°F) over a 360° axis, ensuring optimal heat distribution across the entire part cross-section. This makes tube furnaces ideal for sensitive heat treatments such as calibrating thermocouples.
tube furnaces can also be integrated into multiple heating zones to improve instrument processing capabilities. This allows a fully adjustable temperature gradient to fine-tune the heating and cooling phases of the heat treatment. It can also limit peak temperatures to certain areas of interest on the part - usually in the middle, leaving both ends to be safely handled by additional machinery. It is useful in a variety of material testing applications, allowing the mechanical properties of materials to be accurately characterized at high temperatures.
